TWC’s custom-engineered Soaking Pit Multi-Conductor Cable takes the same standard cable rated for 200°C and short-term exposure up to 675°C and gives it a big boost!
TWC incorporates 25 conductors 14 AWG into the cable which ensures continuous operation at 250°C under severe environmental conditions and flexing applications.
The Soaking Pit Cable can be manufactured using a wide range of AWG sizes and conductor numbers. For most AWG sizes TWC accepts orders for as little as 250 feet. More conductors are available upon request.
Strength, Color and Resistance
The conductor colors follow the K-1 standard, which allows for differentiation. Some of the most common conductors are #8/4 conductor, #6/4 conductor and #4/4 conductor. The copper conductors are insulated with silicone rubber, which provides chemical and heat resistance. Then a fiberglass covering is added with a treated K-fiber jacket. The cable is finished with flexible braided stainless steel wire armor that protects against abrasion, molten spills and other environmental abuse.
When burned, modified silicone rubber leaves a non-conductive silicone dioxide ash which represents an excellent dielectric that permits continued operation of the cable for an indefinite period.
The Soaking Pit Cable passes VW-1 and the MIL-W-16878 specifications for flammability as well as the IEEE-383 ribbon burner vertical cable tray flame test with no circuit integrity failures.
TWC’s quality design and manufacturing process enable our clients to utilize this cable in their steel mills and other applications including soaking pit cranes, scrap charging machines and ladle transfer cars and glass plants.
